Qualifying for the Open Golf Championships
Korean Jim Jeong earned a place at the British Open Championships when he won the British Amateur Championships at Muirfield Sunday 20th June, putting a 10th birdie at the 32nd hole and beating Scotland's own James Byrne.
The Open will has a prize chest of almost £5 million with £750,000 for the winner. 156 golfers take part, about two thirds of them leading players, the rest are golfers who succeeded in international qualifying and local qualifying a week before the event!
Last Years Winner - Stewart Cink
Congratulations to Stewart Cink, winner of the 2009 Open in Turnberry. Cink described his first major triumph as a surreal experience and paid tribute to his rival Tom Watson, who he beat in a play-off by six shots after the two had both finished the tournament two under.
