Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake hosted the Open Championship in 2014.
Located on the west coast on the Wirral Peninsula, Royal Liverpool is just over 10 miles west of Liverpool and 20 miles north of Chester, the area boasts plenty of hotels and lodgings, both in Hoylake, in nearby towns such as Leasowe and West Kirby, as well as in Liverpool and Birkenhead.
Location and The Course
Situated on the west coast, the course can get very windy, it’s generally a flat course, but holes nearest to the coast run through various sandhills.
The Club at Royal Liverpool was founded in 1869 on what was then a race course. It was the first club to host an international match, which took place between Scotland and England in 1902. The Club will be hosting the Open for the 12th time in it’s history.
Famous visitors include John Lennon, who used to cross the course to visit his girlfriend!
Tiger Woods won the last Open at Royal Liverpool in 2006, the video shows highlights from the tournament.
