chambers-bay-us-open-2015We were just a few weeks away from the opening day of the US Open, one of the most prestigious events on the major championship calendar. Starting on 15th June, the 2015 US Open Golf Championship is heading to the Pacific Northwest for the first time in its 120-year history.

The new location will doubtless provide a number of stunning visual delights thanks to huge fairways, rolling dunes and its coastal location, providing spectators with a wonderful spot to unwind following a day of exciting tournament action. What’s more, Chambers Bay will provide a particularly tricky challenge for golfers, thanks to its coastal winds, so this is likely to be one US Open Championship that’s not going to be forgotten in a hurry.

Accommodation for the 2015 US Open

Located in Washington, there is an abundance of accommodation for keen golfing fans at this year’s event. Chambers Bay is within easy reach of a number of budget-friendly chain hotels, such as the Best Western Plus Tacoma Dome Hotel.

However, for those who really want to spoil themselves, Chambers Bay Golf Course offers a number of exciting hospitality packages with its partner hotels. The award-winning Hotel Murano is largely considered one of the top hotels in the world, just 25 minutes away from the course, with 24-hour fitness centres, a spa and more.

Meanwhile, just 20 minutes from Chambers Bay lies the Liberty Inn, which is also within easy reach of a number of cycling and hiking trails. Finally, Cedarbook Lodge is slightly further out at 40 minutes away, but is more than worth it: with 18 acres of wetlands, visitors will feel hidden away from it all whilst still within easy reach of Sea-Tac International Airport.

Previous Open Championships at Chambers Bay

Having risen from the ranks to become the World #1 last year, 26-year-old Rory McIlroy is favourite to win this year’s competition, giving British residents even more of a reason to fly over the pond. However, in years gone by, the US Open Championship title is something that eluded him, save one victory in 2011.

2014 was the year for Martin Kaymer, who won his first U.S. Open, making this his second major title, eight strikes ahead of fellow golfing superstars Erik Compton and Rickie Fowler. Notably, Kaymer was also the first winner from Continental Europe and the fourth European winner in five years.

You can check out a clip of him swinging his way to victory here.
